NOTTINGHAMSHIRE’S LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANS

HISTORY PROJECT

Nottinghamshire’s Rainbow Heritage started in January 2008. It was initially sponsored for the first three years by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It celebrates Nottinghamshire’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) lives, hidden history and culture.

To begin with, we gathered artefacts and memorabilia: photos, badges, flyers for events, newspaper cuttings, documents from social/support groups etc . We gathered audio and video recordings of LGBT people’s experiences and opinions. We organised events: exhibitions; displays; workshops and training.

By 2013 our grant had run out, so we closed our office and devolved most of our collection to Nottinghamshire Archives. Though we still hope to organise the occasional event or training session, this website is now our own archive detailing much of the information we have collected.
